The Karate Kid movies have been a right of passage for kids for several decades now. I know when I saw the original as a kid, I wanted to be a karate kid (even though I’m a girl). Now kids and even adults can have their own Karate Kid Costume for Halloween!

The first Karate Kid film was released in 1984. Already three sequels were released since. A fifth Karate Kid film is in the offing. Karate Kid IV is due to be released in June 2010. The first Karate Kid was written by Robert Mark Kamen and directed by John G. Avildsen. The main casts are Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita and Elisabeth Shue. The central character of Karate Kid is Mr. Miyagi played by Pat Morita. Pat Morita continues until the last of the sequels. He is the handyman at the apartment occupied by Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), a high school senior and his mother. They just moved into the apartment in the Reseda neighborhood in Los Angeles.

Daniel becomes friendly with Ali Mills (Elisabeth Shue). That provokes her ex-boyfriend Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). Johnny, who is the best student at the Karate school, Cobra Kai dojo regularly beats up Daniel with help of his friends. One day Miyagi happens to see this. Miyagi, who is a native of Okinawa and a master in martial arts, intervenes and defeats Johnny at the encounter. Miyagi also tries to end the enmity between Daniel and Johnny with the help of the sensei of Cobra Kai. But the sensei says that the conflict will be stopped only if Daniel takes part in a Karate tournament and wins it. Miyagi trains Daniel and he finally wins the tournament defeating Johnny in the finals. After that Johnny became very friendly with Daniel.

Karate Kid II: Karate Kid Part II was released in June 1986, just two years after the first. It starts where the first Karate Kid ended. Daniel breaks up with his girlfriend. He accompanies Miyagi to Okinawa to visit Miyagi’s dying father. There Miyagi meets his old friend turned foe, Sato. Miyagi had to flee Okinawa because of his love affair with Sato’s daughter. Miyagi found to his surprise that Sato’s daughter was still unmarried and wanted to marry her. Sato challenged Miyagi to a fight until death to settle the old score. When they met again Sato repeated the challenge. Daniel also found a new love in a village girl. Sato’s nephew, Chozen wanted to have a fight with Daniel because he took a dislike for Daniel. There are plenty of fights in Karate Kid II.

Karate Kid III: This continues where the first Karate Kid left off. The main actors remain the same. The picture was released in 1989. It happens one year after the last happenings in the first Karate Kid. Daniel had started a new business in Bonsai trees with the help of Miyagi. The sensei of Cobra Kai, Kreese wanted to avenge the defeat of Johnny by defeating Daniel in the next Karate tournament. However, in the end Daniel wins.
Costume Accessories: The Karate Kid Miyagi Dojo Headband
Karate Kid IV: The story of Karate Kid IV revolves around Miyagi and there is no Daniel LaRusso in it. The picture was released in 1994. Miyagi befriends a girl, Julie. He helps her out of her several problems including a car accident.
The fifth Karate Kid film is due to be screened soon. The Karate enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for it. Until then, you can still get a cool Karate Kid costume!

I remember when the first Karate Kid film came out in 1984. It was and still is a real classic. It has been brought more into the spotlight with the new release starring Jackie Chan and Will Smith’s son. These costumes are so cool and will be a reall hit this Halloween.
